Magnus Maximus

Magnus Maximus

Dynasty: Family of Theodosius

Usurper (AD 383-388)

Magnus Maximus was of Spanish origin and reputedly a distant relation of the emperor Theodosius I. He rebelled in Britain in AD 383 against Gratian, who was killed trying to defend his part of the Empire. Magnus Maximus appointed his little son, Flavius Victor Caesar in AD 387. In AD 388, however, the Emperor Theodosius finally marched from the East and put down the usurpation
