Augustus (AD 41-54)

The fourth emperor of Rome, Julio-Claudian dynasty. Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (formerly Tiberius Claudius Drusus) was born in BC 10. He was the younger son of Nero Claudius Drusus (brother of Tiberius) and Antonia (daughter of Mark Antony and Julio-Claudian Matriarch). Claudius, despite physical disabilities was a competent ruler and something of a scholar. He had a number of wives including the notorious Messalina and his niece, Agrippina the younger
