Tacitus

M. Claudius Tacitus

Dynasty: Family of Tacitus

Augustus (AD 275-276)

Tacitus was believed to have been an elderly senator and a descendant of the historian Tacitus. Both claims are probably fictitious - Syme thought it more likely that Tacitus was another Illyrian general in the mould of Aurelian and Probus. Tacitus became emperor after the regretful murder of Aurelian. He won a battle against German invaders before he was murdered in a conspiracy. He was succeeded by his half brother Florian
