Tiberius

(Tiberius Claudius Nero)

Augustus (14AD-37AD)

Tiberius was the son of Livia, and the stepson, then adopted son of Augustus. When Augustus ran out of heirs, Tiberius found himself, almost by default, Augustus' successor. Although Tiberius' reign was long and relatively peaceful, he was much maligned in the sources as a pervert. Even if that was so, he proved himself to be an able administrator of the empire, and dutifully followed the example of Augustus.
