Macrinus

(Marcus Opellius Macrinus)

Augustus (217AD-218AD)

Macrinus was the main player behind the plot to murder Caracalla. On Caracalla's death, Macrinus was proclaimed Emperor - the first to have not been a senator. Macrinus patched up a peace with the Parthians and hurried back to Rome. However he was son toppled by the move to place Caracalla's cousin Elagabalus on the throne.
