Pertinax
(Publius Helvius Pertinax)
Augustus (192AD-193AD)
Pertinax was proclaimed Emperor on the death of Commodus. However he did not have the complete support of the Praetorian Guard. As often happens after the end of a Roman dynasty there occurs a period of political instability. Pertinax was the first of these causalities having reigned only a matter of months, until the new Severan dynasty was founded.
