Nerva
(Marcus Cocceianus Nerva)
Augustus (96AD-98AD)
Nerva had served many emperors faithfully since the reign of Nero and when the unpopular Domitian was assassinated he was appointed emperor by the senate. Nerva, like Galba, suffered initial instability which forced him to quickly appoint a successor. Nerva's choice (if he had any) was Trajan, a strong and able commander, which brought stability to Nerva's reign. Nerva died soon afterwards..
